So this was big last night in Istanbul. I did wonder where the loosing team where, having been caught up in the celebrations last night. So this is what they were up to. The scale of the party was the biggest I’ve witnessed.

Storks losing their wetland homes end up at local garbage dump in India
Fast vanishing wetlands in and around Guwahati city have now become a major threat for the survival of the Greater Adjutant Stork. Guwahati city has the largest concentration of the stork in the world but their numbers are gradually declining due to the loss of wetlands, habitat and declining availability of food. Is it me, or are those storks GIGANTIC? Probably has something to do with the photography.

Syria suffers worst terror attack since start of uprising
Syria suffered its worst terrorist attack since the start of the uprising when 55 people were reported killed and nearly 400 injured in twin suicide car bomb blasts near a government intelligence building in Damascus.
Syrian officials and media blamed foreign-backed terrorist groups for the attack on Thursday, saying it was carried out “in the service of the interests of Israel and its allies in the region”. Russia hinted that other unnamed countries were involved.
The opposition accused the regime of President Bashar al-Assad of carrying out the bombings to smear them as terrorists supported by foreign governments. [pic: SANA/Reuters]
A bird! A plane! No, it’s super moon! It was hard to miss the spectacular full moon last night, when it was biggest, brightest and closest to Earth this year — a mere 221,802 miles away.
“I don’t believe in a leadership that makes decisions based on messianic feelings. They are misleading the public on the Iran issue. They tell the public that if Israel acts, Iran won’t have a nuclear bomb. This is misleading. Actually, many experts say that an Israeli attack would accelerate the Iranian nuclear race.”
Socialist challenger Francois Hollande has won the first round of the French presidential vote, setting himself up for a May 6 runoff with right-wing incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy.
Estimates of the result broadcast on Sunday as polls closed gave Hollande 28.4 per cent, Sarkozy 25.5 per cent and the far-right’s Marine Le Pen 20 per cent.
Le Pen’s surprisingly strong show could throw open opinion poll projections that give Hollande a 10-point lead in the runoff.
France’s interior ministry announced 70.59 per cent voter turnout by 5pm.
The number is considered relatively high, but slightly less than the exceptional 2007 turnout for the same time.
The result of the May 6 runoff, the run-up to which will include a televised debate, will decide who will be France’s president for the next five years.
“There is no chance of any survivors. It will be only a miracle. The plane is totally destroyed.”
